While this standard engine is terrific, the Tacoma’s real show-stealer is an i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine; it’s new for the midsize, body-on-frame truck segment and is the most powerful engine Toyota has ever offered on the Tacoma. This available option pairs a 2.4L engine with an electric motor to create a total of 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

We won’t deny that this is the engine option we’re most excited about, and it completely changes what we’ve come to expect from the Tacoma by nearly doubling the torque output of the current model with its V6.

Leave the Road Behind…

For years now, the midsize Tacoma has been a favorite among off-road enthusiasts and those looking to hit the trail or reach campsites well off the beaten path. For the 2024 model year, Toyota continues to make the Tacoma an amazing off-road option with TRD trims that feature four-wheel drive (4WD) and an electronic locking rear differential.

An all-new front stabilizer bar disconnect allows for incredible flexibility and articulation at the push of a button: disconnect the front stabilizer bar and increase the Tacoma’s articulation by 10% compared to the current generation of this truck. Perhaps most exciting of all, this feature is even compatible with approved lift kits, letting you customize your truck and still enjoy fantastic capability.

The TRD Pro trim, without the available tow package, achieves a 33.8-degree approach angle, a 23.5-degree breakover angle, and a 25.7-degree departure angle. This truck can also get 11 inches of ground clearance with this setup, while the available Multi-Terrain Monitor gives you numerous camera angles for improved visibility that makes it easy to maneuver through even the most challenging of situations.

Building on what they’ve done before, Toyota has managed to make the Multi-Terrain Select traction control system work with both 4WD-High and 4WD-Low settings, letting you adjust wheel spin and account for different types of terrain in any situation.

Making the current TRD trims even better is only part of the off-road equation with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma; the other is the first-ever appearance of the Trailhunter trim. The Tacoma has been a favorite for folks who enjoy overlanding for many years now; with the Trailhunter, Toyota is recognizing this and building a truck designed for overlanding straight from the factory.

In developing this new trim, Toyota worked with overlanding experts to make an incredible truck that features 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks with rear external piggyback-style remote reservoirs, letting it handle the roughest terrain imaginable. This is combined with a steel rear bumper, strong rear recovery points, and a bed utility bar for great functionality.

Available with either a five-foot or six-foot bed and a Double Cab, both light- and heavy-duty versions of a bed rack are offered to handle items like rooftop tents, canopies, camp showers, and more. You’ll find 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires on the Trailhunter, lifting it by two inches in the front and an inch-and-a-half in the rear for greater clearance.

A high-mount air intake and high-clearance trail exhaust help maintain great airflow and performance even when things get messy, while hot-stamped high-strength steel skid plates protect the Trailhunter’s underside. Altogether, this is an amazing new option for anyone who likes to go off-road and leave the city behind for long stretches of time.

Remarkable Cabin Tech

The era of barebones trucks—those with little more than seats, basic air conditioning, and a simple AM/FM radio—is long over, and you can see it quite clearly with the 2024 Tacoma, which has one of the most stunning and technologically advanced interiors we’ve ever seen.
