The Top 4 Things to Expect from the 2022 Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra offers a hard-working addition to the brand’s family of economical, low-maintenance vehicles. However, the current Tundra has been on the market for quite a while now with no major change, and Toyota is looking to shake things up. The 2022 edition, coming soon to your local Toyota Tundra dealership, is likely to be rough around the edges, with an aggressive body and the capability to match.
Of course, most of this is just projection. Toyota has been incredibly discreet in its handling of the all-new 2022 Tundra. Even spy photos have captured very few details, although they have inspired quite a few detailed renderings from excited fans. Toyota’s teaser trailer for the Tundra released in March of 2021, featured a dimly lit front view of the truck, followed by a glare of front LED lights and then a quick fade to black. There was little to glean from that brief teaser besides the fact that the Tundra will certainly guide you in the dark.
Thankfully, that’s not all we know. In fact, there are at least four exciting facts that we expect to be true about the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Read on for the latest talk about this upcoming truck, a pickup that’s likely to cement this affordable brand as a leader in the pickup game.
Amazing New Powertrains
Details emerge from time to time, the latest cluing us into what’s under the hood of the new 2022 Tundra. Toyota has revealed an image of the Tundra’s engine cover that hints at a possible V-6 engine. There appear to be three intake runners per side of the cover, which likely means that there are six cylinders total. The rumors are that this engine will be turbocharged or a hybrid, likely giving it more horsepower and torque output than the current V-8 engine – while also conserving fuel.
We can only assume what kind of capability this new Tundra can achieve. Based on figures we know about the new global 2022 Land Cruiser, which has a new turbocharged V-6 engine, the 2022 Tundra may reach around 410 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power for both capable towing and enjoyable on-road speed. If it exceeds expectations, the new Tundra could compete with other big names in the pickup world.
Toyota has also hinted at the future release of an all-electric pickup, but it’s unclear if such a powertrain will be available for the 2022 Tundra. Given the engine image Toyota released, there’s probably at least one hybrid powertrain available for the 2022 model. However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t other powertrains to choose from.

New Infotainment Tech
Every new Toyota vehicle coming in 2022, including the Tundra, will have a new multimedia system. While more details are to come (including the name of this system), the new Tundra may include this vastly redesigned multimedia technology. Toyota has announced that they are rolling out superior infotainment tech in 2022 that’s faster, smarter, and ahead of the curve; what’s unclear at the time, though, is if the Tundra will have minor tweaks or a total upgrade.
Infotainment screens in the 2022 Toyota Tundra will likely range from 8 to 12.3 inches in size, base on other recent Toyota models. The system should feature smartphone compatibility, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can connect contacts, music, audiobooks, and more with no need to connect wires. You might even be able to access your favorite smartphone apps while on the go.
Toyota has been listening to consumer feedback, and their new infotainment tech will be catered to the public’s demands. So while the Toyota Tundra is sure to be a strong truck with great on-road potential, it should also have a state-of-the-art cabin stocked with the latest technology. That means more control over your entertainment while you drive, as well as access to conveniences that can make every drive easier – from commutes to long road trips.
We’re still awaiting safety details, including info on active safety technology. However, Toyota is likely to continue building on their Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite, which has already garnered praise in current models. We’re staying optimistic and expecting Toyota to roll out even more safety features in the 2022 Tundra.
Total Redesign
The current Tundra has been in production for several years now and has only received minor updates with every release. While these improvements have added exciting new features, the upcoming Tundra is due for a redesign. There are a few surefire details that indicate the 2022 Tundra is vastly different.
First, the new generation will be based on the new TNGA-F architecture, joining other future Toyota vehicles like the 4Runner on an exciting new platform. This architecture will reduce production costs, which could potentially make the Tundra a more affordable truck in the coming years. Generated images predict the new Tundra will have a more intimidating, squared-off look with a more contemporary aesthetic.
While there are no official images of the interior to share as of today, we can guess from the wider, sharper, and more muscular exterior design that the interior may match. At the very least, a bigger Tundra means a bigger, more spacious cabin. A total cabin redesign may add either a more luxurious trim or a series of sporty, off-road aesthetics to match the domineering front end.
Whatever changes the new truck brings, a redesigned Toyota vehicle is always worth celebrating. We can expect steps toward a better performing, more durable truck that can endure more weight – certainly beyond the current model’s tow rating of 10,200 pounds – and even excel at off-roading. Based on the secrecy around this upcoming model, there may be some unexpected touches that Toyota hopes will garner major publicity and praise.

Available By the End of the Year
While there are no official release dates yet, the 2022 Toyota Tundra could roll into your local Toyota dealer by late 2021. That means finishing off the year with the best new truck from Toyota – and finding out for yourself what it has to offer. This also means that you should be able to test drive this truck in just a few short months. See what you think of the newly designed cabin, get a feel for its infotainment system, and determine if these predictions were correct.
You should also be able to pre-order and customize your new Tundra in late 2021. As with other Toyota vehicles, the Tundra should be easy to build from either your local Toyota dealer or on Toyota’s website. If you choose the latter, you can compare trims to get the features you want, the style you want, and even some special equipment packages or add-ons.
Something we can’t do right now is provide details about available accessories. However, based on what the 2021 edition of the Tundra has to offer, there should be some exciting ways to soup up your truck with exterior features like bed lights, steps, and chrome exterior accents. Add on possible accessories for the interior – like the wireless charging station available in the 2021 Tundra – and choose the color schemes for its interior upholstery.
As new updates are released, Toyota will give us a clearer picture of the 2022 Tundra’s performance, tech, comfort features, and accessories. While we know little outside these four facts for now, it sounds like the newly designed Tundra is worth getting excited about.
