The 2025 Toyota 4Runner: A Preview

The upcoming 2025 Toyota 4Runner is on its way. While it hasn’t arrived at dealerships yet, we already know about how it will operate when it’s released towards the end of this year. Toyota states that this sixth-generation 4Runner “introduces a bold new look and adds new technology, premium materials, options, and safety,” all while staying true to its original concept.
Let’s look at the details of what the 2025 4Runner offers.
All About the 2025 4Runner
Power and Performance
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner offers two turbocharged 2.4-liter, four-cylinder powertrains. One of them has the i-FORCE engine, which has 278 horsepower and 317 lbs. per foot of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The other has the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which pairs the turbo-charged 2.4-liter engine with a 48-horsepower electric motor integrated into its eight-speed transmission. This combination feeds from a 1.87-kWh battery that generates a total system output of 326 horsepower and 465 lbs. per foot of torque.
Grades and Trail Capabilities
The 2025 4Runner models have nine different grades available: the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and Trailhunter. Each of these grades comes with its own accessories and literal trailblazing capabilities.

Along with the different grades, the 4Runner has two-wheel drive (2WD), part-time four-wheel drive (4WD), and full-time 4WD. The different wheel drives have various differentials on each of the grades. For example, the TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter grades have a standard electronic locking rear differential. Other available differentials across the different grades include an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD) and a center locking differential on i-FORCE MAX (which comes standard on Platinum grades).
The 4WD differentials are controlled by a Multi-Terrain Select system that controls wheel spin in different terrain settings, such as Mud, Sand, and Dirt.
The Latest Technology
The Toyota 4Runner’s latest model comes with great technology, including standard 8-inch and available 14-inch multimedia touchscreens. These screens display Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a Qi wireless charging pad.
Among the 4Runner’s other technology, all its grades come with the standard Smart Key System with a push-button start. Select 4Runner grades have an available Digital Key option that you can access with an active Remote Connect trial or subscription. The Digital Key connects with compatible smartphones to allow you to enter your vehicle, and it allows you to remotely share that access with other people, so you don’t have to give them a physical key to your SUV.
Excellent Safety Features
Along with top-notch technology, power, and performance, the 2025 4Runner also provides the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, which includes the following safety features:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- Proactive Driving Assist
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Automatic High Beams
All these features help you stay safe, no matter whether you’re off-roading in mud or sand or just driving down the highway.
