What’s the Most Fuel-Efficient Toyota Model?

Toyota’s been the go-to car brand in fuel economy for decades now. Over half of their lineup has hybrid technology, so it’s no surprise that they lead the pack in terms of getting the best gas mileage. But which Toyota model is best?
If you’re looking to stretch out your dollars and save money at the pump during your travels around Romeoville and beyond, here are the best Toyota cars, trucks, and SUVs to consider.
Hybrid with the Best Gas Mileage: Toyota Prius
MPG (city/highway/combined): Up to 57/56/57
The original. The genuine article. The Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid to hit American shores, and it’s continued to be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles for over 20 years. It’s also incredibly affordable, surprisingly spacious, and available with all-wheel drive. The AWD model drops the MPG down to 54 combined, but that’s still a solid figure that blows most compacts out of the water.
Sedan with the Best Gas Mileage: Toyota Camry
MPG (city/highway/combined): Up to 53/50/51
The Camry has been one of the best-selling cars in the world for decades. This can be attributed to its affordability, spaciousness, excellent selection of tech features, and of course, its above average fuel economy. For the 2025 model year, it underwent a big-time changeup—the Camry is now exclusively available as a hybrid, making it even more eco-friendly than the Corolla Hybrid, although they’re both neck-and-neck in terms of city mileage.
SUV with the Best Gas Mileage: Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
MPG (city/highway/combined): Up to 45/38/42
The Corolla Cross is among the newest additions to the Toyota roster, having first been released for the 2022 model year. As the name implies, it’s basically a bigger and taller version of the beloved Corolla, and it shares the sedan version’s outstanding MPG ratings.
We also have to give a shout-out to the runner up, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It gets up to 41 MPG in the city and 38 on the highway, and its standard all-wheel drive makes it a slightly more rugged and capable option for shoppers with a sense of adventure.
Plug-in Hybrid with the Best Gas Mileage: Toyota Pruis Plug-in Hybrid
MPG (city/highway/combined): Up to 53/51/52
It should come as no surprise that the Prius nameplate shows up twice on this list. Until recently, it was known as the Prius Prime, but aside from the name change, the Prius PHEV retains the same incredible economy stats. Not only does it get stellar regular gas mileage, but its plug-in hybrid battery allows it to go up to 44 miles purely on electric power, which gives it an estimated MPGe of 127, making it one of the most efficient mass-produced vehicles ever made.
Truck with the Best Gas Mileage: Toyota Tacoma
MPG (city/highway/combined): Up to 23/24/24
Pickup trucks aren’t exactly known for being the most fuel-efficient vehicles, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get one that’s competitive without sacrificing power. The Tacoma has two available powertrains, the i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX hybrid, both of which are capable of solid economy for their class while also retaining the Tacoma’s brawny off-road characteristics and max towing capacity of over 6,000 pounds.
