The Unbeatable Toyota Brand

Toyota produces some of the most reliable vehicles on the market; the name Toyota practically synonymous with value and longevity. Now a world-renowned brand, Toyota’s success is globally recognized and admired.

Interestingly, their automotive sector was once just a small department within the greater Toyota Industries, which was founded in 1926 by Sakichi Toyoda. Back then, Toyota mainly produced looms and other machines. Today, Toyota continues to build forklifts/handling equipment and textile machinery on top of vehicles. The Toyota Motor Corporation broke off from the parent company under the direction of Toyoda’s son Kiichiro in 1937.

During the 1940s and ’50s, small Toyota automobiles were sold under the nickname “Toyopet.” Its mid-size luxury sedan, the Toyopet Crown, marked Toyota’s debut on the American market in 1957. Unfortunately, the association with toys and pets wasn’t as well-received in the States and got pulled just a year later. Always primed for adaptation and comebacks, Toyota made a resurgence with motorsports in the 1980s, maintaining rear-wheel drive designs longer than many other automakers. In the 1990s, Toyota responded to the American market’s desires for bigger and more luxurious vehicles with a line of SUVs and the T100, which later evolved into the Toyota Tundra.

By 2007, the Toyota Tundra won Motor Trend’s “Truck of the Year” at the same time the Camry was named “Car of the Year.” The Corolla and Yaris were performing well on the market, building Toyota’s ultimate staying-power in the United States. More recently, Toyota invested in the ride-sharing service, Uber. By 2018, Toyota committed $500 million to Uber’s development of autonomous cars.

In January of 2020, Toyota and Lexus reached a global sales milestone of 15 million vehicles. A leader in hybrid vehicles, the Toyota Prius sold six million units and counting by January 2017. In addition to their own automobiles, Toyota also invests in several other successful brands, including a 20% stake in the Subaru Corporation and a 5.5% stake in Mazda. The Toyota Financial Services Division even builds robots.

The Toyota Motor Corporation is a company with a clear vision. Through over 80 years of history designing the most reliable cars in the business, Toyota’s brand is rock solid. The Toyota symbol is easily recognized around the world, though it’s only been around since 1990. With three overlapping ellipses, the Toyota logo symbolizes the connection between customer hearts and the heart of Toyota. Along with the tagline, “Let’s go places,” Toyota is your loyal partner on all of life’s journeys.

Toyota's Reliability and Safety

Popular models like the Corolla and the Camry have added a bevy of new safety features over the years. These recent innovations go the distance to protect drivers. One of these innovations is the Toyota Safety Sense package that is included in the latest models at no extra cost. Something other brands could only dream of doing. This system currently includes features like a pre-collision warning, lane departure alerts, dynamic cruise control, and many more.

Toyota’s pre-collision system uses a camera and radar sensors to help prevent you from accidentally rear-ending another vehicle, or worse, hitting someone walking by. Coupled with lane departure alerts, your Toyota lets you know when you unintendedly veer into another lane, preventing accidents on all fronts.

The dynamic cruise control helps maintain an adequate distance from the traffic ahead while cruising along a congested highway or road. Lane Tracing assist uses lane markers to keep your vehicle safely centered in the road. By employing the help of an intelligent frontal camera, roadside assist can even detect stop signs and decipher speed limits. All of this futuristic safety technology in today’s Toyotas was unimaginable just a few years back.

Toyota is present on almost every top ten list for reliability, with several models gaining perfect scores. Rated as Toyota’s top reliability ride, the Toyota Prius C is a testament to Toyota’s exceptional engineering. In 2018, Consumer Reports listed its top 15 most reliable cars. With plenty of standard safety features and high-reliability ratings, you cannot go wrong with a new Toyota.
